“YUGEN” refers to a traditional Japanese aesthetic ideal that evokes a profound and mysterious beauty, something that cannot be fully expressed through words or form. Unlike previous works, this piece employs a high-temperature firing process, using the chemical reactions produced by heat to draw out an entirely new expression from the material itself. A specialized industrial coating made primarily from genuine silver is subjected to intense heat, allowing the silver to emerge from the depth of the jet-black surface, while unpredictable nuances of color and depth develop through the transformation. Its expression shifts with the angle of the light and the passage of time, revealing a scene that is never quite the same twice.

Built upon years of experience in industrial coating techniques, Kuwai Hana works with material, heat, and light to carefully guide the transformation created through the firing process.
