クワイ華は、日本の現代アーティスト／カスタムビルダー。1998年にハーレーダビッドソン専門のカスタムショップ「BAD LAND」を設立し、独自の塗装技術や金属加工技術によって国内外で高い評価を得る。長年にわたり、工業塗装や金属加工の現場で培ってきた経験を背景に、2023年よりアートブランド「UNDULATION」を開始。特殊銀液や金属素材、多層塗膜を用いながら、工業的精度と人の手による揺らぎを融合させた作品制作を行っている。作品には、龍や渦巻きなど東洋的モチーフが取り入れられており、伝統的な精神性と現代的な素材表現が共存している点が特徴。作家名の「華(はな)」は、今は亡き愛猫の名に由来し、最後までまっすぐに力強く生き抜いたその存在への敬意が込められている。現在は6匹の猫と暮らしながら制作を続けている。
2024年12月にはフィリップスのオークションにて作品が高額落札されるなど、国内外で高い評価を獲得。公募展での受賞や展示会を重ね、アートシーンにおいても存在感を高めている。
UNDULATION
UNDULATIONは、クワイ華による現代アートブランドです。本物の銀でつくられた特殊塗料を幾層にも重ね、削りや研磨を繰り返しながら、一点一点制作されています。作品は、光の角度や時間帯によって表情を変え、平面でありながら立体的な奥行きと存在感を生み出します。制作には、長年培われてきた工業塗装技術や金属加工技術が応用されています。それは、長年BAD LANDというハーレーダビッドソンのカスタム製作に携わる中で、実践的に習得してきた経験によるもの。通常はロボットや機械によって均一に仕上げられる工業的な工程を、UNDULATIONではあえて人の手で行うことで、工業的精度と手仕事ならではの揺らぎの両方を一つの作品の中に共存させています。そのわずかな揺らぎや痕跡には、人の手でしか生み出せない温度感や感覚が宿り、独自の質感と表情を感じさせます。代表的な渦巻きのモチーフは、狛犬や龍から着想を得たものです。守護やエネルギーの流れを象徴しながら、素材の力強さと静けさが共存し合う。UNDULATIONは、素材・光・動きの関係性を探求しながら、工業技術とアートを横断する作品群として制作されています。

Kuwai Hana is a Japanese contemporary artist and custom builder. In 1998, he founded BAD LAND, a custom shop specializing in Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and gained international recognition for his original painting techniques and metalworking craftsmanship. Drawing on many years of experience in industrial painting and metal fabrication, he launched the art brand “UNDULATION” in 2023. Using special silver coatings, metallic materials, and multilayered paint surfaces, his works merge industrial precision with the subtle fluctuations created by the human hand. His artworks incorporate Eastern motifs such as dragons and spirals, characterized by the coexistence of traditional spirituality and contemporary material expression. The name “Hana” is derived from his beloved late cat, embodying a tribute to her strength and unwavering spirit throughout her life. He currently continues his creative practice while living with six cats. In December 2024, his works achieved high-value sales at a Phillips auction, earning significant recognition both in Japan and internationally. Through award-winning entries in open exhibitions and an expanding exhibition history, he continues to establish a strong presence in the contemporary art scene.
UNDULATION
UNDULATION is a contemporary art brand created by Kuwai Hana. Each piece is meticulously crafted through the layering of a proprietary coating made from genuine silver, with repeated carving and polishing to reveal its unique surface. The surfaces change expression depending on the angle of light and time of day, creating a three-dimensional sense of depth and presence despite being on a flat plane. The production process applies industrial coating and metalworking techniques cultivated over many years. These techniques were developed through Kuwai Hana’s extensive experience producing Harley-Davidson custom under the name BAD LAND. Processes that are normally completed uniformly by robots or machinery are intentionally carried out by hand in UNDULATION, allowing industrial precision and the subtle fluctuations unique to human craftsmanship to coexist within a single work. These slight traces and irregularities contain a warmth and sensitivity that can only emerge through the human hand, giving each piece its distinctive texture and expression. The signature spiral motifs are inspired by guardian lion-dogs and dragons, symbolizing protection and the flow of energy while balancing strength and stillness within the same composition. UNDULATION explores the relationship between material, light, and movement as a body of work that exists across both industrial technology and contemporary art.
