DRAGONは、クワイ華の内面に深く根ざした感覚から生まれた作品です。黒を基調とした力強い構成と、勢いを伴う線の重なりは一見すると荒々しさを感じさせますが、その奥には、すべてを包み込むような慈愛と静かな温かさが息づいています。塗り重ね、削り出すことを幾度も繰り返すことで現れた色彩と表情は、荒々しさの中にふと緩む温度を宿し、龍という存在が持つ強さとやわらかさを同時に感じさせます。

上下に配された渦巻き状のモチーフは、神社などで人々を守る狛犬から着想を得たもの。守護の象徴として龍と呼応し、空間に静かな力をもたらします。F50号という大きなスケールは、エントランスや広い空間に迎え入れた瞬間、その場の空気を一変させるほどの存在感を放ちます。力強く佇みながらも、どこか慈愛を感じさせるその姿は、日々を過ごす人に寄り添い、まるでお守りのように静かにその場所を見守っていく。

時を重ねるほどに、その存在は空間に深く馴染み、やがて持ち主の美意識とともに唯一無二の価値を育んでいく一作です。

DRAGON was born from a sensibility deeply rooted in Hana Kawai’s inner world. Its powerful composition, dominated by black and layered with dynamic lines, may at first evoke a sense of raw intensity. Yet beneath that strength lies a profound compassion and quiet warmth, as if embracing everything within its presence. Through the repeated process of layering and carving back the surface, colors and expressions emerge from beneath, revealing a subtle warmth within the apparent ferocity and allowing the dragon to embody both strength and tenderness.

The spiral motifs placed above and below the dragon are inspired by komainu, the guardian figures found at shrines throughout Japan. As symbols of protection, they resonate with the dragon, bringing a quiet sense of strength to the space. At F50 scale, the work commands a powerful presence, capable of transforming the atmosphere of an entrance or expansive interior the moment it is welcomed into the space. Though formidable in its presence, the dragon carries an unmistakable sense of compassion, quietly accompanying those who live with it and watching over its surroundings like a talisman.

With the passage of time, the work settles more deeply into its surroundings, gradually becoming inseparable from the character of the space. In time, it develops a singular value shaped together with the owner’s own sense of beauty and aesthetic sensibility.
