艶のある黒い表面に、鋭い線が走る。削りによって生まれたその線は、龍のかぎ爪を思わせるような力強さを持ちながら、あえて何かを描き切らないところに、このケースの面白さがあります。光が当たると削りの深さや凹凸が浮かび、黒の艶との違いがはっきりと現れます。10本の時計を収めるケースでありながら、閉じた状態でも目を引く存在です。
外装は、特殊塗料を何層にも重ね、乾燥、削り、磨きを繰り返して仕上げています。削り方や力の加え方によって線の太さや深さが変わるため、同じ表情になるものはありません。深く刻まれた部分には強く光が入り、浅い部分では細い線として残る。その違いが、黒い表面に自然な陰影をつくっています。
きれいに揃えた装飾ではなく、手を動かした跡がそのまま残っているのも特徴です。近くで見ると一本一本の線がはっきりと見え、少し離れると、それらがひとつの大きな流れとして見えてきます。見る距離によって印象が変わるのも、この仕上げならではの魅力です。
内装には、ハンドメイドデザイナー・葛野慎吾が仕立てるオーストリッチを採用。独特の質感を持つオーストリッチが、鋭さのある外装に対して柔らかな印象を加えています。ケースを開いたときには、黒の艶と削りの表情、オーストリッチの質感が一緒に目に入り、10本のタイムピースを収める空間としても美しく仕上がっています。

Sharp lines run across the lustrous black surface. Created through the scraping process, they have a strength reminiscent of a dragon’s claws, while leaving the form open to interpretation. When the light catches the surface, the depth and texture of each mark become more visible, creating a clear contrast against the glossy black. Designed to hold ten timepieces, the case has a strong presence even when closed.
The exterior is made by layering special paints and repeatedly drying, scraping, and polishing the surface. The width and depth of each line vary according to the way the surface is worked, so no two cases have exactly the same expression. Deeper marks catch the light more strongly, while lighter ones remain as fine lines across the surface. Together, these differences create natural variations of light and shadow within the black finish.
Rather than a precisely arranged decoration, the surface retains the traces of the hand that created it. Up close, each individual line reveals its detail. From a little farther away, the lines come together as one continuous movement. This change in appearance depending on the viewing distance is part of what makes the finish distinctive.
The interior is finished in ostrich leather by handmade designer Shingo Kuzuno. Its distinctive texture brings a softer quality to the sharp character of the exterior. When the case is opened, the lustrous black surface, the marks left by the scraping process, and the texture of the ostrich leather come together to create a refined setting for ten timepieces.
Rather than depicting a dragon directly, only the lines reminiscent of its claws remain. This sense of restraint leaves room for each viewer to form their own image. Made to store ten watches, yet equally at home as an object within a space, this is UNDULATION’s 10-Watch Case with a character all its own.
