A distinctive work born from the YUGEN technique, characterized by a deep red with subtle mauve undertones. While embracing a different palette from the jet-black works in the series, it carries forward YUGEN’s unique approach of using high-temperature firing and chemical reactions to draw out the inherent character of the material. Subtle violet nuances emerge within the depth of the red, revealing a lustrous radiance when touched by light. Viewed up close, the surface reflects surrounding light and scenery almost like a mirror, creating ever-changing expressions depending on the viewing angle and distance.

Built upon years of experience in industrial coating techniques, Kuwai Hana carefully observes the transformation of material, heat, and light to draw out each work’s individual character. The chemical reactions created through high-temperature firing do not produce completely uniform results. Instead, it is Kuwai’s refined sensitivity and technical expertise that allow these subtle variations to become part of the work’s beauty, creating a depth unique to each piece. As light settles within the rich color and the reflective surface captures its surroundings, the work quietly incorporates the space around it into its own evolving expression.
